Get to Know Me: B with Wellness

As mentioned last week, COMMENT is introducing a new series of Get to Know Me interviews in order to allow both ourselves and our readers to connect to more of the amazingly talented visionaries that exist out there in the ether that is the internet.

To kick start this wonderful new feature we have roped in our very own B to give you all an opportunity to get to know her better, find out what inspires her and how she stays motivated when it comes to blogs and business...
Becky Symes, of B with Wellness, is a health and wellness coach who empowers women to reconnect with their radiance on a holistic level. Starting with the foods they eat, she encourages them to take control, get creative in the kitchen and find their natural beauty. She believes that "this approach goes so much deeper than the food we choose to eat. It’s how we think about ourselves, how we relate to other people, and how we live our day to day lives."

COMMENT: What made you decide to begin your blog / channel / business etc. and what does it offer to people?
BECKY: I started B with Wellness really as a platform for my coaching practice. I wanted to create a place where I could connect with other women who had shared similar chapters in their own life stories. The aim was really to weave together a lifestyle of wellbeing with one of inspiration, nourishment and self-love. It's taking a little hiatus at the moment while I focus my energy on rebranding things a little but we have some very exciting things coming up.

C: What is the biggest hurdle you have had to overcome with regard to your blog / channel / business etc. and how did you overcome it?
B: I guess mine is one that’s pretty life related to, but I massively struggled with what people would think. I feel like when you have an online platform whether it’s a blog or business, or even just a twitter account, there’s always going to be the fear of people’s reaction. It’s taken me a long time to learn that I can’t control people’s perceptions of me, and it’s a lesson I still have to remember all the time.

C: What is your Friday afternoon indulgence?
B: At the moment I’m getting pretty creative with my rice cake toppings. Current favourite has to be cream cheese with a medjool date and a drizzle of tahini. Literally is the dream. That said, there is nothing that can’t be made better with the addition of a medjool date.

C: Your idea of a perfect weekend is…
B: An early morning Bikram class, followed by a green juice and almond milk latte catch up with my girlfriends. An afternoon in the kitchen baking up some treats, and then maybe a cheeky Saturday night date night to get dolled up for with a nice glass of wine or two. Lazy Sunday morning brunch, possibly in bed, followed by a dog walk in the sun and maybe even a clean roast dinner in the afternoon. Absolute bliss.

C: Here at COMMENT we love Brunch. Where is your favourite Brunch spot and what are you ordering?
B: I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in the States growing up as my dad lived there, and I have to say no one does breakfast better than them! Somewhere like Crepevine in San Rafael for an omlette with extra avocado, or Herbivore in Berkeley for a tofu scramble with a blueberry banana shake.

C: What 3 things can you not leave home without?
B: My phone, lipbalm and my lucky crystals.

C: Who are your idols, mentors, people that make you fan-girl, and why?
B: Melissa Ambrosini because she’s the first woman in the health field that I was really captivated by. I really resonate with her wellness journey and she’s such a beacon of love.
Gala Darling, for her radiant authenticity and her radical self-love coven hashtag.

C: What is your top tip for a Monday morning?
B: My tip is all about preparation. For me, the Sunday night feeling precedes the morning, so I try and write a set of lists for the week the night before. Where my priorities are, what commitments I have, what needs doing before I leave the house on Monday. And then I just make sure I get up a bit earlier so I can ease myself into my routine. I’m really not a morning person so it can help to reduce some of the friction.

C: What is your morning routine?
B: My puppy is normally my morning alarm so I feed her before anything else happens. While she’s playing outside I start my oil pulling and pop the kettle on for my hot lemon. Multi-tasking hey. I finish oil-swishing while I run a bath and then scrape my tongue before hopping in. After getting myself dressed for the day, I run downstairs for more multitasking, put everything in the Nutribullet and chop a salad for lunch at the same time, before nipping out of the door to go to my office day job.

Complete this sentence:In 5 years’ time I would like to be…
Actually feeling like a grown up. Living a life of abundance, passion and adventure.
