A Foodie Trip to London: Day 4

Our final day in London involved a lot of travel and the prospect of having to drag heavy luggage around a sunny, busy London. After checking out of the accommodation we were in need of a good breakfast to last us through the day and so headed to the end of the road in order to visit Leon.

I had never been to Leon before but had heard a lot about how it offers healthy, honest alternatives to the standard fast food and coffee joints. We therefore ordered a plethora of goodies to try.

I began with a standard flat white coffee before realising that they offered soya milk but it was still wonderful either way.

We were all in need of something savoury and protein-filled and so decided to order an egg pot each after MUCH deliberation (because all of the porridge pots also sounded fabulous). I chose the ham hock whilst Mum and Sarah went for smoked salmon and avocado. The portions arrived and look a little on the small side but were actually really filling and I wasn't left with a feeling of dissatisfaction in any way.

After days of eating lots of rich, sugary foods we all felt in need of a little health kick and so all decided to try the super green smoothie. If I can remember rightly from what the server told us this smoothie contains: blueberries, dates, kale, apple and avocado (I think...?) all blended up together and served slightly chilled. It was thick and creamy and truly did feel like it was pouring sunshine and goodness into my tired veins.

Feeling perfectly satisfied off just that, but not really wanting to move just yet, it seemed only appropriate to sample some more of the menu whilst we chatted away and made plans for the day.

We ordered a cranberry bircher bar...

...along with a lemon & ginger slice (my favourite of the two) both of which were really light and fruity and didn't feel too sinful - especially after the green smoothie.

As I was still finishing my coffee, Mum and Sarah decided to order a soya hot chocolate each. It looked wonderful and Mum reported that it was rich, dark and not sickly or sweet at all - just how we like it!

After breakfast it was time to head out into the busy, Sunday streets of London and over to Covent Garden for a quick spot of shopping on our journey back up to Euston. On our trip last year, Mum and I stayed in Convent Garden and spent one of our happiest mornings ever sat outside Hotel Chocolat's cafe with mugs of steaming hot chocolate in glorious September sunshine. By way of salute to that we decided to head there again as a final indulgence before we all went our separate ways back up north. It did not let us down.

I chose a classic hot chocolate whilst Mum decided to try the Easter special - a hot cross bun flavoured hot chocolate that truly did taste like a hot cross bun! It was amazing and I was slightly jealous. We both got them topped with chocolate whipped cream (which made the whole thing even more wonderful) and ordered a couple of cakes to go with them.

The dark chocolate orange slice...

...and the carrot cake. Both were moist, sticky and just enough without being overwhelming.

After sitting there, enjoying our last few moments of being together in that magical city, it was time to bid our farewells and journey back home with stomachs, hearts and heads all full of the amazing things we'd eaten, seen and discussed over the past few days.

I am not ashamed to say that when I got home I had serious mini-break blues and immediately began planning the next one.
